Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is off to a fast fundraising start, raking in about $1.25 million during his first day as a presidential candidate, a source close to his campaign confirmed.

The figure was first reported by The Associated Press.

The 43-year-old first-term senator launched his campaign at Miami’s Freedom Tower on Monday evening, portraying himself as a fresh face who would usher in generational change. His one-day haul is similar to what another Republican hopeful, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, raised during the first day of his presidential campaign. Cruz also reported raising about $4.3 million in the first nine days of his candidacy.

Rubio is trying to assemble a fundraising apparatus that will help him compete against another Florida Republican: former Gov. Jeb Bush, who has locked down much of the party’s establishment support. Rubio has secured the backing of Norman Braman, a Miami billionaire who is expected to pump around $10 million into a super PAC, Conservative Solutions, that has been formed to support Rubio’s candidacy.
